Situation Report: Surigao City, several Surigao del Norte towns now flooded, 2 persons dead

Surigao City (November 19) -- Flooding brought about by continuous rains is now being experienced in Surigao City and in several other municipalities of Surigao del Norte and claimed 2 casualties in Surigao City due to landslide.

The victims were identified as Tita Angob Salvador, 26, female and 3-months pregnant Leah Salvador, 20 both resident of Purok 8, Teachers Village, Sitio Cayutan, Brgy. Cagniog, Surigao City.

Reports coming from the City Government thru City Mayor Alfonso Casurra revealed that the incident happened early this morning, November 19, 2007. Several houses were also damaged in the area.

Meanwhile, the continuous heavy downpour also resulted the major streets in the city unpassable.

The flooding has already affected the municipalities of Tagana-an and Placer but as of press time, the total number of families affected and the conditions of the road networks have not yet been determined.

The City and Provincial Disaster Coordinating Councils have been in full of activity since this morning to see to it that vehicles who are stranded in the streets are rescued.
