The Solar Power Technology Support Project (SPOTS) worth P25,991,023.95, a government project assisted by the government of Spain, is now switched on and handed over to the agrarian reform beneficiaries in the five barangays within the Surigao City ARC III in Surigao del Norte.
Surigao City ARC III, is one of the 109 ARCs in Caraga Region which are covered by DAR-SPOTS project aiming to alleviate rural poverty and increase income in the countryside. It specifically provides lighting system in remote ARCs.
A package of support services consisting of potable water system, school building and barangay hall lighting facilities and barangay health center is provided by SPOTS. This is part of DAR's contribution to the ten-point agenda of President Arroyo for countryside development.
ARCs are composed of farmers in cluster barangays under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). In his message, DAR Regional Director Engr. Felix Aguhob said that at least 270 households are now enjoying the benefits of the solar power energy.
The barangays covered by solar power project are, Aurora, Danawan, Lipata (Sitio Sumilom), Lisondra and Zaragoza. The ceremonial switching on and turn-over was done recently by Engr. Felix Aguhob, Regional Director of DAR Caraga Regional Office, Hon. Alfonso Casurra, City Mayor of Surigao, Dir. Rueben Quejas, SPOTS II - National Project Director, Dir. Mario Marasigan of the Department of Energy, PARO Jose T. Sebucao of Surigao del Norte and other DAR and local government officials. (DAR-13/PIA-Caraga)
