Surigao del Norte peace advocates are set to converge today, Nov. 27 for the celebration of Mindanao Week of Peace.
The said observance is in line with the Presidential Proclamation No. 127 dated Nov. 26, 2001 which assigns the last Thursday of November up to the first Wednesday of December every year as the Mindanao Week of Peace aimed to provide a venue for expression of peace aspirations in various forms and for convergence of peace.
This year, the celebration will commence today, Nov.27 and will end on Dec. 3.
Act for Peace Technical Working Group in Surigao del Norte together with peace advocates and other sectors of society will converge for a 'WALK for PEACE' around the city which will start at Km.1 and will end at the Surigao City Hall. A short ecumenical prayer from various religious groups and muslim community will then follow.
The highlight of the weeklong observance is the celebration of the 2nd Surigao Peace Day as declared under Sangguniang Panlalawigan resolution no. 148 series of 2007 on Dec. 2 which will start with a caravan at 1:00pm from the different municipalities in the mainland and will converge at Barangay Sta. Cruz, Placer.
The caravan will proceed to the Provincial Convention Center for an Environmental/Industrial Peace Forum as a manifestation of the provincial government's commitment to support program's projects and activities that promotes peace.
The said activity is in collaborative effort of the Mines and GeoSciences Bureau, Department of Labor and Employment with other national line agencies and the provincial government of Surigao del Norte. (PIA-Surigao del Norte)
