Quite good enough to start a community-owned trade, a total of P180,000.00 livelihood assistance were successfully granted by the Provincial Government to two People’s Organizations here in San Jose, Dinagat Islands. Spearheaded by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Governor Jade B. Ecleo graced the awarding of P125,000.00 worth of check to Jacquez Women SKA and P55,000.00 worth to Golden Apple Association, (a group of persons with disabilities based here in San Jose) to finance their income generating projects. Present to witness the program were San Jose Mayor Benglen B. Ecleo and Vice-Mayor Mario Bagunas together with Barangay Captain Rodrigo Reponte of Barangay Jacquez, and Assistant PSWD Officer Zenaida Lerma Escopete, all shared gladness of the beneficiaries.
The Jacquez Women SKA has become the recipient of the Self-Emplyment Assistance – Kaunlaran (SEA-K) Program, a national program created by Executive Order No. 123 in 1994 which was adopted and replicated by the Provincial Government of Dinagat Islands during the program launching held December, last year. The Provincial Government entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with DSWD-Field Office XIII agreeing that both agencies shall allocate P500,000.00 each in support to the program. Golden Apple Association, on the other hand, received the grant derived from 1% Elderly and Persons with Disability budget of the provincial government.
Meanwhile, two successive Basic Business Management Trainings were conducted recently by PSWDO with the Women On Work (WOW) Association of Cagdianao and Shining Star Association of San Jose respectively. As part of the program’s strategies, these two were among the nine groups that will be soon funded by the Provincial Government for the same nature of program and/ or activity.
The PSWDO head, Mrs. Virginia Salar, continues to advance the Livelihood Assistance and productivity Skills Program for the empowerment and augmentation of family income of all sectors in our community. The agenda is to cater the needs of the people through capability building, technical and financial assistance on their individual or group income-generating projects.
