The low pressure area spotted along the Visayas on Thursday evening intensified into a tropical depression, prompting weather forecasters to put eight provinces in Visayas and Mindanao under signal number 1.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that as of 6 p.m. Thursday, tropical depression "Bising" was sighted at 140 kms east of Surigao City with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center.
Areas under signal number one were Eastern Samar, Western Samar, Biliran, Leyte Provinces, Cebu, and Bohol in the Visayas; and Dinagat Province, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, and Camiguin in Mindanao.
By Friday afternoon "Bising" expected to be 40 kms southwest of Maasin, Southern Leyte. By Saturday afternoon it is predicted to be at 100 kms Southwest of Iloilo City.
By Sunday afternoon, it is expected to move at 130 kms northeast of Puerto Princesa City.
Pagasa also warned residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under signal number one to take necessary precautions against possible flash floods and landslides. - GMANews.TV
