PNRC wants closer watch on VisMin calamity areas

The Philippine National Red Cross on Monday urged PNRC local chapters to monitor areas in Surigao del Norte, Negros Oriental, Davao Oriental, Cebu City and Surigao del Sur that have been devastated by continuous rainshowers, flashfloods and landslides.

At least four municipalities consisting of 31 barangays in Negros Oriental have been affected by the calamity, according to PNRC chapter administrator Louella Bael.

The Red Cross chapter has facilitated the release of 50 sacks of National Food Authority rice as well as medicines for cough, colds, diarrhea and skin diseases brought about by decongestion and prolonged stay of evacuees in the evacuation centers.

In Cebu province, PNRC Cebu Chapter administrator Norma Tancinco said the Coast Guard is conducting a series of rescue and search operations with the aid of Red Cross chapter volunteers.

Tancinco said that they are in search of five missing persons namely Mario Oliverio, Gerry Kaquilala, William Badiable, Temoteo Morabos, Remegio Ofianga at Arn Darawis. The five are passengers of M/V Chrysler, which capsized after being rammed by another vessel.

In Surigao del Sur, PNRC Chapter administrator Adel de Guzman said the Red Cross had just finished distributing tensacks of rice and five boxes of noodles to the 55 families in the marketplace, eight families in Manggawong, nine families in the coastal area, five families in Bogac, and to 36 families in Cumawas or to 148 families all in all.
