The city government of Surigao has identified various activities for the 111th Philippine Independence Day Celebration on June 12, 2009.
With the theme, "Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan Tungo sa Kalayaan," the activity will start with a unison prayer by different religious sects in the city followed by the singing of the national anthem and raising of the Philippine flag in front of the City Hall with Mayor Alfonso Casurra, Gov. Robert Ace Barbers, Vice-Gov Noel Catre, and Vice-Mayor Rico Salvador Sering.
The activity will be highlighted by the awarding of Pangulong Gloria Scholarship (PGS) vouchers through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to 150 qualified and pre-selected scholars of Surigao del Norte College of Agriculture and Technology and Prov'l Manpower and Training Center under the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP).
Also, to make the celebration more meaningful and worthwhile, Mayor Casurra will give a brief presentation of the Surigao City Citizens Manual to the Civil Service Commission.
DepEd Surigao City Division will give a tableau performance on the declaration of Philippine Independence while students of the Caraga Regional Science High School will perform a number of folkdances.
The wreath-laying will be done at the statue of Dr. Jose P. Rizal after the community singing of "Isang Dugo, Isang Lahi, Isang Musika" to be led by the City Chorale Ensemble.
Aside from these, jobs fair will be conducted by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Surigao Del Norte - 1st Engineering District. Engr. Linda Uypala, OIC District Engineer said several local construction firms will participate on the said activity. They are currently looking for carpenters, masons, light and heavy equipment operators, and laborers, Uypala added. (PIA-Surigao del Norte)
