Surigao City hosts 3rd PPA-DOJ Execon

Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) Administrator Ismael J. Herradura along with the regional directors and assistant regional directors conducted its 3rd Executive Conference (ExeCon) meeting on August 11, 2009 at Hotel Tavern Surigao, Surigao City. The agenda of the conference focused more on the 7 Strategic Pathways currently implemented by the agency specifically on harmonizing their programs, strengthening the training capability of their personnel, strengthening their Information Technology competency and as well as the structure, its funding support, and benchmarking practices per region.

Adm. Herradura explained why they have chosen Surigao City as the venue for the conference, “our first execon was held in Tuguegarao in Luzon and we’re able to observe many good things that they are doing and after Tuguegarao we went to Region 8 for the second execon, in Biliran. This time, we move on to Mindanao, napili naming ang Surigao kasi yung nasubmit na programa ng Caraga sa opisina gusto naming evalidate (we chose Surigao because we want to validate the programs submitted by Caraga).

“And we are happy to tell you that we did not fail,” Herradura added.

He also admired the partnership of the local government and his office in terms of the agency’s best practices currently implemented in their agency. “Our partnership of the LGU here is very excellent, the Governor, the Mayor they are supportive of the program, kailangan naming yan sa aming programa na community based treatment (we need it for our community based treatment program).”

On the part of the City Government of Surigao, Mayor Alfonso Casurra in a radio interview said the city was very proud to host the PPA’s 3rd ExeCon Meeting.

“On behalf of the local government unit of Surigao, we would like to express our gratitude for selecting the city as the host city for their meeting,” said Mayor Casurra.

Casurra also revealed that the city government hosted a welcome dinner last August 11 at the City Cultural Center.

PPA’s ExeCon is a quarterly management meeting presided over by the PPA Administrator with the deputy administrator, regional directors and asst. regional directors as members that serve as a venue for threshing out issues and concerns of the agency. The four-day conference which started last Tuesday, August 11 will culminate with a tour wherein the guests will be brought to the nearby tourist destinations of the city in coordination with the City Tourism Office.
