At least 14 persons were critically injured when a passenger jeep accidentally flipped over into the highway Sunday morning at Sitio Iba, Barangay Datu, Pilar town, Surigao del Norte, police reported Tuesday.
Police identified the victims as Edelito Salvalosa Magallanes, 26; Vilma Barbero Dulpina, 31; Bebelinda Longos Cariaga, 41; Almie Literato Mendoza, 11; Roshelmay Quiachon Penson, 12; Bernadette Culdora Literato, 28; Catalina Virtudez Estoque; 50; Clarita Anora Murilla, 65; Feredevel Nodalo Rubianes, 17; Angelo Gazo Solloso, 15;Lucina Golandrina Conado, 78;Lovely Lobapes Ocon, 19; Rosalinda Sulapas Camingue, 65; and Jackson Salvalosa Escanilla, 21, all of Surigao del Norte province.
The victims were immediately rushed to Dapa District Hospital for medical treatment.
The driver of the ill-fated jeepney is now temporarily detained at Pilar Municipal Police Station while criminal charges are being prepared for filing in court.
Police said that the passenger jeep (LYB 752), driven by Joey Dulguime, resident of Sitio Caridad, Barangay Datu, Pilar town of that same province, while traveling from Poblacion Pilar heading towards Dapa town reportedly encountered mechanical defect and losses control and flipped over into the highway, resulting in the injuries of the passengers.
Meanwhile, Chief Supt. Lino D. Calingasan, regional director of Police Regional Office 13 ordered on Tuesday the provincial police director in Surigao del Norte to submit his comprehensive report on the said road accident as Mayor Peter Ruaya was asking a thorough investigation on the said incident.
