Authorities guarding a Commission on Elections checkpoint to enforce the gun ban and monitor other election-related violations accidentally intercepted illegal drugs from a 17-year-old on a national highway in Alegria town last Thursday.
The Caraga Region Police Information Office confirmed a belated report coming from the Alegria Municipal Police Station in Surigao del Norte saying that authorities intercepted a motorcycle driven by a minor "Ronnie" (not real name), a resident of Barangay Anahaw in Alegria.
Cops noticed that Ronie's motorbike had no registration plate, and when they searched the vehicle after demanding for its registration and for Ronnie’s driving license, they found a sachet of shabu (methamphetamine hydroxide), the report said.
During the investigation, Ronnie disclosed that his financier was certain "JALAL" of Barangay Anahaw in Alegria.
At around 1:00 a.m. February 5, 2010, the police team conducted follow-up operations at JALAL’s residence, but the subject evaded arrest and fled to unknown direction, but managed to throw a white pouch into the muddy lot near his house.
The pouch contained one sachet of alleged shabu worth P3,500; empty sachets; illegal drugs repacking paraphernalia; aluminum foils; and a pair of scissors.
The confiscated items are now in the custody of Alegria Municipal Police Station for proper disposition. - BS/LBG, GMANews.TV
