SURIGAO, Philippines - Police on Friday arrested 3 more persons suspected of having involvement in the assassination plot against a regional official of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Northern Mindanao.
Police identified the 3 suspects as Gina Canumay, Ferdie Jay Espinosa and Sheila Marciano.
Canumay and Espinosa were arrested from a lodging house in Cagayan de Oro City while Marciano was nabbed at the Lipata Port Terminal in Surigao.
Chief Inspector Charlie Cabradilla, acting Surigao police chief, said policemen seized from Marciano a hand grenade, a .45 pistol and a supposed sketch plan on DPWH-Northern Mindanao Director Jerome dela Rosa.
Cabradilla said they are now hunting down a certain Loenardo Aba Magsino, the alleged person who hired the suspects to assassinate Dela Rosa.
He said Magsino was identified by one of the 3 arrested suspects during questioning.
The arrests came after policemen nabbed 2 other suspects, who both admitted to having involvement in the assassination plot against Dela Rosa.
The suspects -- Crosito Romulo and Romano Soliman -- admitted that they were involved in the failed assassination of DPWH-Northern Mindanao assistant director Mauro Bravo last May.
They said mistook Bravo for Dela Rosa. -- Report from Richmond Hinayon, ABS-CBN Caraga
