Young pugs clash in slugfest

Amateur boxing will take center stage anew as the 3rd Mayor Carlos M. Egay, Sr Boxing Challenge will kick off on Monday, August 23, 2010 in the Municipality of Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte.

The tournament is sanctioned by the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP)-Caraga Region through its ABAP Regional President Raymond O. Tuikinhoy and ABAP-Surigao Del Norte Chapter President Rogelio F. Lopez.

Final registration, medical examination and actual weight-in will be conducted on Monday morning at the Gigaquit Multi-Purpose to be headed by the ring physician Dr. Roland Mira and ABAD officials.

The actual competition starts at 6:00 P.M.

Lopez said ABAP aims to discover and produce more talented amateur boxers from the grassroots level in the province of Surigao del Norte and train them to fight for ABAP’s regional and national competitions.

“This is an opportunity for us to discover talented boxer who can follow the footsteps of the boxing legend Manny Pacquiao,” said Lopez.

Lopez added ABAP will be train potential boxers at Bernadette Village Boxing & Fitness Club located at Bernadette Village, Brgy. Luna, Surigao City. (Roel Catoto/The Agusan-Surigao Enquirer)
