The echoes of the time buzzer ended Tuesday morning for the last heat of this year’s Siargao International Surfing Cup in Cloud 9, General Luna.
Of the 36 competing surfers who joined this year’s longest running surfing competition, only 4 finalists qualified for the last round.
All were Filipino ace surfers including one former champion of the tournament.
The finalists are Dodo Espejon, Bonifacio Seguron, Carlito Nogalo and Rodolfo Alcala, who did a very good comeback after being declared the champion in 1999.
Travis Pyle and Glenn Turner of Australia, meanwhile, dropped out of contention in the quarterfinals.
The naming of winners is withheld until Wednesday evening for the awarding ceremony.
The first placer will bag P150,000 or US$3,500. The prize worth P70,000 awaits the second placer while the third and fourth placers will receive P45,000 each.
The Best Surfer and other special awards will also be announced in the awarding ceremony that will be held at the beach site.
A total of P500,000 will be given away for the winners of the 16th Siargao International Surfing Cup. (abs-cbnnews.com)
