Ecleo shown pics of wife’s remains; It’s not my wife, cult leader insists to court

The body found stuffed inside a garbage bag in a ravine in Dalaguete town, Cebu wasn't his wife, cult leader Ruben Ecleo claimed in a court hearing yesterday afternoon.

Ecleo, supreme master of the Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association (PBMA), was shown the photos of the remains found in the bag. He said it wasn't his wife Alona Bacolod.

“This is not her. My wife is about 5’1” in height but a medico legal report showed that the cadaver is 5’5”. Also, the fingers of the dead woman are bigger. My wife's fingers are small,” Ecleo told the court.

Ecleo said he was in barangay Tabunok in Talisay City to meet his members on Jan. 5, 2002, when his wife was killed.

He said his wife left their home in barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City to attend a “belated New Year's outing” with her brother, Ben Bacolod.

He said he tried to call her several times to no avail, a claim questioned by Alona’s brother Josebil.

Ecleo was elected congressman of the lone district of Dinagat Islands in Surigao del Norte in the May 10 elections.

Josebil, who was two rooms apart from the couple's bedroom, said he heard thuds and shouts from Alona on the same day she died.

He said he saw Ecleo along with a bodyguard carrying a garbage bag towards a vehicle.

“Ecleo's claims are all lies,” Josebil told reporters afterwards.

Ecleo is accused of killing his wife Alona in their house in sitio Banawa, barangay Guadalupe in Cebu City on Jan. 5, 2002.

He posted a P1 million bail back in 2004, claiming that he has a serious heart ailment and needed immediate medical attention. (inquirer)

Anonymous said...: Very Simple!!!, let him claim whatever he wants, that is his (Ecleo's) right or does he have one? hehehe...i'm sure DNA will and would prove otherwise if this is true...but of course not the philippine version of DNA which is 'Di-Namin-Alam' hahaha... but seriously, if he staunchly declare that it's not his wife, then he should know where she is!!! or he will claim again that he's a walking time bomb ready to explode at any moment if he shows you where!!... the doctor and the lawyer who is feeding and testifying for this argument must have a radio-controlled remote that will make their client explode!!! because they outlandishly believe him...they are sure of the 'allegation' to be true and correct? or maybe, all they need is a robust shakedown and let's see what will explode, Kaboom!!!! Philippine justice MUST see to it and check that the Batteries in these "remotes" are fresh and not to expire soon in order to keep him in that state of explosivity....this is not stupidity, but a mockery or travesty of justice at its core!!!; September 9, 2010 at 12:20 AM
