At least four earthquakes, the most powerful measuring magnitude 4.1, rocked the area of Surigao City in Mindanao shortly after noon on Monday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs) said the quakes were tectonic in origin. No damage or aftershock was expected.
Phivolcs said the first quake was recorded at 12:18 p.m., with the epicenter at 84 kilometers (km) northeast of Surigao City.
A second quake measuring magnitude 4.1 was recorded at 12:27 p.m., with the epicenter traced to 128 km northeast of Surigao City.
The third quake measuring magnitude 3.5 was recorded at 12:39 p.m., with the epicenter at 114 km northeast of Surigao City.
It was felt at Intensity II in General Luna, Siargao Island.
A fourth quake measuring magnitude 3.0, was recorded at 12:43 p.m., with the epicenter at 122 km northeast of Surigao City. – VVP, GMANews.TV
