The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) thru Gov. Glenda Ecleo recommends to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) for the declaration of the province under a state of calamity.
PDRRMC Deputized Coordinator and Public Information Officer Rosario Roxas revealed that the said recommendation came up during the meeting of the council yesterday, Jan. 6, 2011after a thorough assessment made by PDRRMC members of the damages to infrastructure and agriculture and to cope up with the adverse effect brought about by the heavy rains for the past 5 days caused by the tail-end of a cold front.
The PDRRMC reported that 3,385 families or 14,424 persons were severely affected by the floods, however, only 284 families or 1,289 persons were evacuated in their 6 designated evacuation centers.
Some 180 houses were partially damaged and only two were totally damaged amounted to 1.83Million.
The total damage to both private and public infrastructure now reached to P42.57Million. In agriculture, rice fields and other crops such as banana and root crops reported an estimated damage amounted to P5.45Million.
Reports also revealed that the MDRRMCs of San Jose and Loreto, so is the PDRRMC extended relief assistance to the evacuees and affected families. (PIA-Surigao del Norte with reports from PDI-PIO)
