Surigao del Norte Governor Sol Folcadilla Matugas together with officers of concerned government agencies personally visited the flash flood and landslide affected communities in the province Saturday morning and distributed relief goods, medicines, blankets and other useful materials to evacuees and calamity victims.
Matugas also met and consoled the wife of farmer Amado Basadre, who is still missing, after he was reported swept away by strong current while crossing a river in Barangay Honrado in San Francisco, Surigao del Norte on Thursday at the height of the continuous downpour.
Surigao del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that as of 5 a.m. Saturday, a total of 9,186 families or 44, 404 individuals or persons from 129 barangays in the province were affected by the recent flash floods brought about by Northeast Monsoon and Wind Convergence Affecting Mindanao.
In Siargao Island, the Del Carmen to Barangay Mahayahay road was reported damaged rendering it impassable as of press time.
In Surigao City, a wooden bridge in Sitio Cayutan in Purok 3 collapsed after it was hit by a tornado.
The field offices of the regional Department of Health (DOH) are now monitoring health situation of evacuees and flood victims, the report said. (PNA)
