The province will join the nation in celebrating the Women’s Month on March with this year’s theme: “Magna Carta of Women, Philippine CEDAW: In support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).”
The activities will kick off on March 1 with the launching program after the flag raising ceremonies at the provincial capitol grounds.
Other activities to be led by the province thru the Gender and Development Coordinating Council (GADCC) include a free pap smear on March 3 to 12 at the Provincial Health Office; Walk for a Cause on March 5 at the City Boulevard; Skills Training on Dish Washing making, Perfume making and Fabric Conditioner making on March 15 at the SP Multi-Purpose Hall ; Meat Processing on March 23 at the municipality of Dapa; Lecture on Responsible Parenting on March 29 at the Provincial Convention Center; and the GAD Forum on Magna Carta of Women, Wellness and Domestic (Kasambahay) Issues, which will then serve as a culminating program for this month-long activities to be held on March 31 from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the Provincial Convention Center.
Board Member Regina Alaan, who heads the provincial GADCC, called on all barangay council and women’s group, local government units, and national line agencies to actively participate in the month-long celebration by displaying streamers with the prescribed logo of the Philippine Commission on Women.
She also asked the private sector to share their resources by sponsoring or conducting activities devoted to women.
The Women’s Month celebration is spearheaded by the provincial government led by Governor Sol Matugas and the GADCC. (PIA-Surigao del Norte)
