Elizabeth Sering-Larase, a Surigaonon, from the DepEd Surigao City Division was recently awarded as the Third Place Winner of the Search for the 2010 Most Outstanding Implementer Award for Alternative Learning System (ALS), a program of the Department of Education that provides alternative mode of education to learners outside the formal school system.
The prestigious award was recently given at the Teacher’s Camp in Baguio City.
A unique ALS implementation to the Out of School Youth/Adult learners and IPs (Indigenous People) of Sitio Tagbasingan, Barangay Mat-I, Surigao City made Larase a winner.
Larase is so thankful to the former city officials for the full support that they have accorded to the programs and projects of ALS in Surigao City during their term. “I would like to thank the former Mayor Alfonso Casurra for his support – for giving honoraria to our facilitators, school supplies, staff development including construction and repair of ALS Community Learning Resource Centers.”
The search for the Most Outstanding ALS Implementers aimed to support the professional growth and development of the ALS supervisor, coordinator and mobile teacher nationwide. It was first launched in 2003 and has since awarded 35 ALS workers. (FEAbkilan, PIA-Surigao del Norte)
