2 children in Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands freed in a hostage-taking incident

A hostage situation involving a construction worker and two children was resolved by authorities in Cagdianao, Dinagat Island on Tuesday.

Investigations showed that construction worker Julius Besona first held hostage 1-year-old Syril Mendez at around 7 a.m.

Besona allegedly threatened to kill the child before giving in to the child’s mother, Helly Mendez.

Besona surrendered the first hostage to the mother but held hostage 11-year-old Honey Grace Horos as replacement.

Elements of the Cagdianao Police and Dinagat Police were able to recover Horos without conflict.

The demands and motive of the suspect were unclear.

The suspect is detained in Cagdianao Municipal Police Station while awaiting charges. -- Report from ABS-CBN News
