The Nationalista Party has been invited by the Liberal Party and the United Nationalist Alliance to coalesce with them in next year’s Senatorial elections, NP member and former Surigao del Norte Rep. Ace Barbers, said recently.
Barbers, who was in Bacolod City recently, however, said nothing is final yet, their party’s decision will be released two to three weeks from now.
The choice of the party they would coalesce with will depend whether its principles jive with that of the NP, he said.
The LP is led by President Benigno Aquino III, while UNA is headed by Vice President Jejomar Binay and former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada.
Barbers said the NP is now completing its senatorial slate, which includes Las PiƱas City Rep. Cynthia Villar, incumbent Senator Allan Peter Cayetano and two others, whose names he withheld.
Barbers, son of the late Senator Robert Barbers who is also being encouraged to run for Senator under NP, said he is still weighing things before finalizing his decision.
One of the things that has to be considered is his winnablity, he said.*APN/Visayan Daily Star
