3 arrested in Dapa for illegal fishing

SURIGAO CITY - At about 8:30 A.M. of July 17, 2016, a phone call received from a concerned citizen informing that there were fishermen spotted and conducted illegal fishing activities with the use of dynamite at seawaters of Brgy. Buenavista, Dapa, Surigao del Norte.

Acted upon receipt, personnel from 1301st Maritime Police Station of Surigao led by PO2 Johnrey B. Pedralba and PO1 Rene Ozaraga onboard rented motorbanca conducted anti-illegal fishing operations to verify the veracity of the said report, which resulted in the apprehension of three fishermen at about 10:20 A.M. On-board unmarked motorbanca colored white.

They were caught in the act of engaging in illegal fishing activity violating section 88 para (3) of RA 8550 (Actual use of explosives or poisonous substances or electro fishing devices for illegal fishing) as amended by Section 92 of RA 10654 at vicinity seawaters of Barangay Buenavista, Dapa, Surigao del Norte.

Arrested suspects were Terso Ruaya Espuerta, 36 years old married; Alex Buo Goma, 39 years old married; and Jerry Bayeta Jovero, 35 years old, married, all are residents of Brgy. Buenavista, Dapa, Surigao del Norte.

Estimated amount of evidence confiscated and recovered from the possession are as follows: one unmarked motorbanca with 16HP HONDA engine - P60 000.00; six bottle suspected dynamite - P1, 200.00, three diving goggle - P1,500.00, two scope net - P600.00, wooden paddle - P400.00, two improvised diving pins -  P400.00, one styro box - P240.00, five kgs of assorted fish catch - P1, 000.00, two matches Commando - for a total amount of P65 340.00. (Surigao MARPSTA)
